8 CTK AQUINAS Be AMBITIOUS You will be given the tools you need to start planning your future, thanks to our strong careers programme and links with employers and businesses. We have strong relationships with our successful alumni community, some of whom sit on The Christ the King Partnership Board, providing valuable insight from a diverse range of careers. Be talented Life at CTK Aquinas is not just about academic achievement, it is also an opportunity for you to discover and develop your interests, aptitudes and talents. From debating to dance, filmmaking to music, you will have many chances to get involved. You can contribute to the in-house magazine or be elected to the Student Council or Governing Body. The Student Council runs events throughout the year, including the Leavers’ Prom, Talent Showcase and charity fundraising events. You will also take part in fantastic field trips and expeditions, which could include locations such as Kenya, Alaska and the Tien Shan Mountains, as well as retreats and pilgrimages. Sport at CTK Aquinas If you enjoy sport, you will love the varied and challenging range of activities at CTK Aquinas. They include: • Aerobics • Football • Volleyball • Badminton • Cricket • Basketball • Skiing • Netball • Cross-country • Weight training • Tennis • Table-tennis • Fitness training • Boxing You can take part in inter-collegial sports tournaments. Many of our students have competed at county and national level, in teams and individually. We regularly host visits by accomplished athletes. At our annual sports day, students from all three Christ the King Sixth Forms come together for a great day of activities. This initiative pairs students with professionals in their area of interest. Mentors have included: • A Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics • A subeditor at The Times • An associate project manager at Transport for London • A civil servant at the Foreign Office • An investment lawyer • A research scientist at Imperial College London. You will have access to our external speaker programme, which brings more than 30 specialists in their field to our Christ the King Sixth Form centres each year. Speakers come from a number of backgrounds and organisations. They have previously included Sir Ian Cheshire (Chairman of Barclays), David Thompson (film producer) and Gary Gibbon (Channel 4 News Political Editor). You will have access to exciting opportunities with top employers. These have previously included a professional mentoring programme with the EY Foundation, a Barclays seminar on building resilience and assertiveness, and a talk hosted by the US Ambassador to the UK. You can attend a variety of expert guest lectures, featuring corporate lawyers, barristers and executives from companies such as HSBC, BP and BT. Mentoring Successful Professionals Programme
