A LEVEL Assessment Your work will be assessed by external examination. Content Your Sociology course will develop your critical thinking skills, encourage you to evaluate sociological thinking, and change the way you see the world and your place within it. You will consider Sociology in the context of education, families and households, crime and deviance, beliefs in society, theory, and research methods. You will also conduct an in-depth analysis of sociological theories and reflect on your own experience of the social world, applying it to your study of society. SOCIOLOGY A LEVEL An A Level in Sociology can be the starting point to a variety of careers – from social work to teaching. As a well-respected subject, it opens doors to a range of career paths, including politics, teaching, law, and anthropology. It can lead to several career paths, including social work, nursing, teaching, policing, the civil service, and legal professions. Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 11. Assessment Assessment is by coursework and controlled assignments. You will be required to produce a portfolio of coursework and a separate controlled assignment. A final grade is determined by the externally moderated assessment of the Portfolio units and the examination. As part of the personal investigation component of the A Level, you will be required to produce a 1000-word minimum critical study. At the end of the course, your work will be displayed at the annual art exhibition, which celebrates the creativity of our learners. Content Textiles involves the creation and transformation of materials to explore and produce personal, practical, and contextual investigations within the specialism. Although the course is mostly Fine Art Textiles, it will also bring together elements of fashion, furnishing, and illustration. It is the perfect course for students with a creative flair, an enthusiasm for experimentation, and a passion for drawing. You will enjoy the creative challenge of exploring and working with a wide range of natural and manufactured materials, including wool, plastics, cloth, and paper, developing outcomes within printed, dyed, and constructed textiles. Drawing is an essential skill for studying this subject and is integral to Textile Design practice. You will explore a whole range of Fine Art textiles techniques such as hand embroidery, experimental fabric manipulation, and appliqué. TEXTILES A LEVEL An A Level in Textile Design leads naturally to careers in fine art, graphic communication, fashion, advertising, and product design. Art and Design courses are also useful if you are considering a career in fields such as architecture, marketing, publicity, animation, arts administration, and the media. Textile Design is particularly advantageous for those wishing to progress onto a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 11, you will need GCSEs in an art-based subject at a grade 9-6.
