Content Your course will help you hone your analytical skills and strengthen your essay writing abilities. You will receive excellent preparation for university or the world of work. There is an emphasis on wider academic reading, research methods, writing, and effective independent learning. For exam units, you will analyse and investigate key historical events such as Germany from 1871 to 1991 and Modern Britain from 1951 to 2007. For coursework, you will have the choice from a list of topics pre-1871. Assessment You will be assessed with exams at the end of each year of your course. In your second year you will also complete a coursework unit. HISTORY A LEVEL An A Level in History can be the starting point to a variety of careers - from teaching to archaeology, politics, law and anthropology. Entry Requirements In addition to the entry requirements on page 13, you will also need GCSE History at grade 6 or above. You will focus on a range of historical and contemporary topics, which will further develop your understanding of Italy and Italian-speaking countries. You will also study Italian literature and film, which will encourage you to keep up to date with current affairs. During the course, you will have the opportunity to travel to Italy, to improve your linguistic skills and knowledge of the culture. The course explores contemporary Italian society (family, education, gender equality, and employment), as well as cultural topics such as music, media, traditions, and heritage. It also covers issues like immigration, regional differences, and modern Italian history, including fascism and the post-war transition to democracy. Italian can lead to a variety of exciting careers such as: translating, interpreting, finance, law, sales and marketing, engineering, tourism, leisure, public sector, United Nations and European Union, media, teaching (primary and secondary), and linguistics. Additionally, the knowledge of a foreign language can allow you to pursue any career at an international level. ITALIAN A LEVEL Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 13.
