Assessment Assessment is by coursework and controlled assignments. You will be required to produce a portfolio of coursework and a separate controlled assignment. A final grade is determined by the externally moderated assessment of the Portfolio units and the examination. As part of the personal investigation component of the A Level, you will be required to produce a minimum 1000 word critical study. At the end of the course your work will be displayed at the annual art exhibition. which celebrates the creativity of our learners. Content Your course will help you expand your knowledge of Spanish culture and develop your linguistic skills. You will focus on a range of historical and contemporary topics which will further develop your understanding of Spain and Latin American countries. You will also study Spanish literature and film, which will encourage you to keep up to date with current affairs. During the course you will have the opportunity to travel to Spain, to improve your linguistic skills and knowledge of Spanish culture. Content Textiles involves the creation and transformation of materials to explore and produce personal, practical and con textual investigations within the specialism. Although the course is mostly Fine Art Textiles, it will also bring together elements of fashion, furnishing and illustration. It is the perfect course for students with a creative flair, an enthusiasm for experimentation and a passion for drawing. You will enjoy the creative challenge of exploring and working with a wide range of natural and manufactured materials including wool, plastics, cloth and paper, developing outcomes within printed, dyed and constructed textiles. Drawing is an essential skill for studying this subject and is integral to Textile Design practice. You will explore a whole range of Fine Art textiles techniques such as hand embroidery, experimental fabric manipulation and applique. SPANISH A LEVEL TEXTILES A LEVEL An A Level in a modern foreign language would be beneficial to a great majority of courses at university and would be particularly helpful if you choose to spend a year abroad. Modern languages can lead a variety of exciting careers such as translating, interpreting, finance, law, sale and marketing, engineering, tourism, leisure, public sector, United Nations and European Union, media, linguistics and teaching. Additonally, the knowledge of a foreign language can allow you to pursue any career at an international level. Entry Requirements In addition to the entry requirements on page 11, you will also need GCSE Spanish at a grade 9-6. Assessment You will be assessed on four key skill areas including listening, reading, writing, speaking and grammar manipulation through translation. An A Level in Textile Design leads naturally to careers in fine art, graphic communication, fashion, advertising and product design. Art and Design courses are also useful if you are considering a career in such fields as architecture, marketing, publicity, animation, arts administration and the media. Textiles design is particularly advantageous for those wishing to progress onto a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 11, you will need GCSEs in an art-based subject at a grade 9-6. If you have not studied an art-based subject at school, but wish to be considered for the course, you will need to demonstrate your ability and interest in an art and bring a portfolio to your interview.
