Content Your A Level in Graphic Communication will encourage you to develop a personalised visual language that has clarity and originality. You will explore drawing through digital and traditional methods, experiment with a wide range of tools, materials and techniques and learn how to use sketchbooks to explore you own creative process by experimenting with imagery and manipulating meanings. The course will provide you with the opportunity to explore a variety of graphic visual communication methods including illustration, typography, and poster and packaging design. As part of the personal investigation component of the A Level, you will be required to produce a minimum 1000 word critical study. At the end of the course your work will be displayed at the annual art exhibition which celebrates the creativity of our learners. Assessment You will be required to produce a portfolio of coursework and separate controlled assignments. Content The A Level Geography course consists of four main topics. These are water and carbon cycles, landscape systems, global systems and global governance, and changing places. In water and carbon cycles, you will study the physical processes which control the cycling of both water and carbon between land, oceans and the atmosphere. In landscape systems, you will take part in an integrated study of earth surface processes, landforms and resultant landscapes. For global systems and global governance, you will study the greater connectivity between people, places and environments across the globe. In the changing places module, you will further develop your geographical knowledge by conducting research in an area that is local to you. GEOGRAPHY A LEVEL GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION A LEVEL Your A Level in Geography could lead to a wide range of career paths including conversation, teaching, urban land-use planning, environmental management, overseas development, cartography, climatology and travel writing. Once you are trained in your chosen field, your qualification will open up a whole new world of possibilities - you could go onto become a teacher, town planner, architect, conversation officer or a journalist. Entry Requirements In addition to the entry requirements on page 11, you will also need either GCSE Geography (if you have taken it), at grade 9-6. Assessment You will be assessed through exams and coursework. Graphic Communication is an engaging course that leads to careers in fine art, graphic design, motion graphics, fashion, advertising and product design. Graphic Communication will be of advantage to you if you wish to progress onto a foundation diploma in art and Design. If you have not studied an art-based subject at school, but wish to be considered for the course, you will need to demonstrate your ability and interest in art and bring a portfolio to your interview.
