A LEVEL 16 Aquinas CTK Content In order to study Further Mathematics, you must also choose to study A Level Mathematics. It’s important that you have a passion for and enjoy Maths. Throughout this course, you will broaden the range of both pure and applied Mathematics options and develop your advanced algebraic techniques. If you are considering applying for Mathematics or a degree with a high Maths content at university, then you are strongly advised to take this course. Topics you will study include: summation of series, roots of polynomials, equations, complex numbers, algebra and graphs, De Moivre’s theorem, hyperbolics and matrices, impacts and collisions, poisson distribution and further hypothesis testing. Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 11, you will also need GCSE Mathematics at a grade 9. Assessment Assessment is by examination. An A Level in Further Mathematics can be the starting point to a variety of careers - from engineering to accountancy. As a highly regarded subject, it opens doors to a range of career paths, including medicine, engineering, computer science or accounting. FURTHER MATHEMATICS A LEVEL Content The A Level Geography course consists of four main topics. These are: water and carbon cycles, landscape systems, global systems & global governance, and changing places. In water and carbon cycles, you will study the physical processes which control the cycling of both water and carbon between land, oceans, and the atmosphere. In landscape systems, you will take part in an integrated study of earth surface processes, landforms and resultant landscapes. For global systems & global governance, you will study the greater connectivity between people, places, and environments across the globe. In the Changing Places module, you will further develop your geographical knowledge by conducting research in an area that is local to you. Your A Level in Geography could lead to a wide range of career paths, including conservation, teaching, urban land-use planning, environmental management, overseas development, cartography, climatology, and travel writing. Once you are trained in your chosen field, your qualification will open up a whole new world of possibilities - you could go on to become a teacher, town planner, architect, conservation officer, or journalist.
