Here you can access computer, printing and scanning facilities throughout the day, and three group study rooms to facilitate collaborative working. Our initiatives include reducing our carbon footprint, promoting ecofriendly practices, and leading environmental projects to raise awareness in our community. We proudly received the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction for our efforts and were also winners of the national Sixth Form College Association Sustainability Award 2024. Our Sustainability Development Project focuses on providing training facilities in green STEM areas, featuring solar panel and heat pump technology. Chapel services include a weekly mass and on Holy Days throughout the year. The Chaplaincy team meets regularly with 10:10 student Chaplaincy Representatives to plan events, lead and contribute to Liturgies. You can sign up to be Chaplaincy Representatives - a great role to help you grow in confidence, develop leadership skills and to make a difference. You will receive support and training, as well as experiencing retreat opportunities. Our entry requirements for CTK Aquinas are: English and Maths at a minimum grade 5 Best 8 including English and Maths, minimum of 48 points, average 6 Must have minimum of 6 in the subject chosen at A Level and a 7 for Science and Maths If you are interested in joining a Christ the King Sixth Form but don’t feel that you will meet these entry requirements, you have other options. We offer a range of A Levels with different entry requirements at CTK St Mary’s, in Sidcup. Dress Code When you attend CTK Aquinas, you should dress smartly, as if you are attending a job interview. The dress code for you and your fellow students will be plain black, dark grey or dark brown formal, business like suit (tailored trouser or skirt). Coloured shirts and ties, blouses and dresses are acceptable if suitable for a working environment. Students with Additional Needs For students with additional needs, or where English is not your first language, we have a dedicated learning support area with experienced staff. Content You will explore a range of creative practices including painting, mixed media, sculpture and print-making. Drawing is an essential skill for studying this subject and forms an integral part of Fine Art practice. You will use drawing to record and analyse the observed world, to explore ideas visually and to find new ways of expressing your thoughts and feelings. Also you will learn how to use sketchbooks as a creative journal in order to document your own creative process. Gallery and research visits will be an essential part of your course. A LEVEL COURSES This A Level in Fine Art leads naturally to careers in art, graphic communication, fashion, advertising and product design. ART A LEVEL Fine Art is also useful if you are considering a career in such fields as architecture, marketing, publicity, arts administration, animation and the media. Fine Art is particularly advantageous if you are seeking to progress onto a foundation diploma in art and design. As part of the personal investigation component of the A Level, you will be required to produce a minimum of 1000 word critical study. At the end of the course you work will be displayed at the annual art exhibition, which celebrates the creativity of learners. Entry Requirements Please see the entry requirements on page 11, you will also need a GCSE in an art-based subject at a grade 9-6. If you have not studied this subject at school but wish to be considered for the course, you will need to provide evidence of your ability and interest in the form of a sketchbook/portfolio at your interview. Assessment Coursework and controlled assignments. You will also be require to produce a portfolio of coursework and separate controlled assignments. If you enjoyed your GCSEs and would like to continue with the range of more traditional subjects you have been studying, A Levels could be a good choice for you. Content You will find Biology to be a stimulating and challenging subject that encourages you to work to a high standard, whilst developing your analytical skills. You shall gain an understanding of the various areas within the subject and how they relate to each other. In addition to this, your knowledge and perception of different scientific methods with be strengthened. The A Level Biology course will further develop your mathematical, practical and analytical skills, which will prepare you for work and higher educational fields. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to develop your practical abilities while delving into fundamental topics such as Biology foundations, exchange and transport mechanisms, biodiversity, evolution and disease, communication processes, homeostasis and energy, genetics, and ecosystems. Content Business is a dynamic and interesting subject. Throughout this two-year course, you will enhance your commercial awareness and develop a wide range of business related analytical and entrepreneurial skills. You will investigate different types of organisation, identify investment opportunities and evaluate how markets affect business performance. You are going to learn how to understand real-world decision making processes and critically evaluate the external and internal influences on businesses. The topics you study include marketing and people, managing business activities, business decisions and strategies. BIOLOGY A LEVEL BUSINESS A LEVEL An A Level in Biology can open the door to a wide variety of careers. Depending on what you study at university, you could go on to become a doctor, a lab technician, a forensic scientist or a teacher. Classroom learning is transferred into creating real-world systems through the creation of an independent programming project. You will develop your technical understanding and your ability to analyse and solve programmes using computational thinking. You will cover the fundamentals of programming, data structures, algorithms, and object-orientated programme design. The theory will cover topics such as the internal workings of a computer, the basics of how data is stored using binary, whether that data consists of numbers, texts, pictures or even music. Content Your A Level in Economics will give you a deeper understanding of how market economies work and you will examine the strengths using real-world examples. You will also analyse current economic issues such as the housing crisis and fiscal policy. As the course progresses you will examine different market structures and analyse their consequences for firms and consumers. You will also learn about the world economy, develop your understanding of globalisation and examine the problems that hinder the rapid growth of developing economies. You will have opportunities to go on educational visits, including the Bank of England, and participate in external competitions. You will also be expected to keep up to date with economic developments by regularly watching the news. COMPUTER SCIENCE A LEVEL ECONOMICS A LEVEL A Level Computer Science is a good choice if you wish to study Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Technology at university. Computer Science can to an ever-growing range of careers such as robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, big data processing, networking, ethical hacking, computer game development, home automation or even teaching. Assessment You will be assessed by two written examination at the end of the course and a coursework project. An A Level in Economics can be starting point to a variety of careers - from engineering to accountancy. As a highly regarded subject it opens doors to a range of career paths including banking and finance, international relations, governance and public policy. Entry Requirements In addition to the entry requirements on page 11, you will also need grade 6 or above in both English and Maths. Assessment You will be assessed by exams at the end of the two-year course. You will undertake three papers: Unit one (Microeconomics), Unit 2 (Macroeconomics) and Unit 3 (themes in Economics). each paper will account for one third of your final grades. Content Your A Level English Literature course will develop your critical understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of literature. You will study a variety of texts from different time periods and make connections between these texts. Studying A Level English Literature will provide you with the opportunity to develop your close-ready skills and will improve your use of critical terminology. There will be an important focus on independent learning A LEVEL COURSES An A Level in English Literature can be the starting point to a range of careers - from teaching to law. English Literature is wellrespected if you wish to pursue subjects at university such as English or English Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, Drama, Media Studies ad Law. ENGLISH LITERATURE A LEVEL Once you are trained in your chosen field, your qualification will open up a whole new world of possibilities - you could go on to become a journalist, author, solicitor, copywriter or even a politician. and wider reading which will enable you to broaden your literary prospective and understand how literature has changed throughout history. You will also study a range of poetry, prose and drama spanning from pre-1900 to post-2000 and this will include one play written by William Shakespeare. Content Your A Level in Film Studies will focus on the analysis and deconstruction of film over a wide historical time frame. It will allow you to engage with films from early silent cinema to 1930's Hollywood films to contemporary and experimental cinema.
